The Graphic Artists Guild exists to offer support, information and resources to help you have a more comfortable, profitable and professional working life. It’s a democratic union, so when we say “It’s about you.” we mean that directly and concretely. Every member has a voice.
The Guild serves illustrators, designers, web creators, production artists, surface designers and other graphics creatives on a national basis.
We Wrote “The Book” for You.
The answer to many key questions about pricing, practices , contracts and copyrights is in the Graphic Artists Guild’s Handbook of Pricing & Ethical Guidelines. The industries served by graphic artists operate according to the principles presented in the Handbook, and the Guild makes sure that its practices are carried out.
You.
The strength of the Guild is you. The abilities and experience of its members – your abilities and experience – is what keeps the Guild functioning. Using skills as diverse as illustration, graphic design, photography, cartooning, web design, and multimedia graphics, many members make themselves available to help other members.
Your voice is not just welcome at the Guild, but sought. Your issues are our issues, but we have the power of the whole Guild to confront them.
Learn from Our Community.
We create events so that you have the opportunity to learn from, and engage with, other members. Chapters in Boston, Chicago, New York City, Northern and Southern California, and Seattle exist to create these networking opportunities. The At-Large Chapter serves those without their own local chapter. If you’d like to form your own Guild chapter, we’ll work with you to make it happen.
First and foremost, the Guild is a union. We organized this way so that we could effectively represent artists’ interests politically, ensuring fair treatment at the hands of local, state and federal governments.
We work closely with the US Copyright Office to ensure that we – and you – have a voice on laws that most affect visual artists. To make sure laws favorable to the artistic community are adopted, the Graphic Artists Guild Legal Defense Fund supports artists involved in precedent-setting legal disputes.
